Former television reporters turned stay-at-home mothers Kristen Terrell, Tran Bui and Michelle Robinson held a Black and White Valentine Mixer on Thursday,February 8th at the Crescent Club.

“We get most of our information from soundbites and quotes on television, radio and in the newspaper,” says Terrell. “Even Internet sources don’t always provide all the answers people want. Our mission is to bring the issues to our peers so they can ask their own questions. “

Tackling the relationship questions were WDIA Radio News Director/Talk Show Host Bev Johnson, who is also a counselor and the owner of Heart 2 Heart Counseling and Communication Services, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Mike Gooch and first time Memphis author Lissa Noel who wrote the book 100 “I Wills” After You Say “I Do.”

“The three top mistakes couples make in relationships are complaining, criticizing and punishing,” said Johnson. “Relationships take a lot of work and usually people are not willing to do the work.”

“It takes commitment, perseverance and being constantly open to ideas for continued growth in a relationship,” added Noel.

“Too often single people think they’re racing against the clock so when you operate from that mindset, you tend to push away from healthy relationships,” said Gooch.

Entertainment was provided by young Memphis singing sensation Chelsea Chandler who’s performed with entertainers B.B. King, Tracy Byrd and Keith Urban.

All the panelists and entertainer donated their time. Proceeds from the event benefited the Commission on Missing and Exploited Children (COMEC).
